Children's Day 2021 - History, Importance and Significance

Children's Day is also known as Bal Diwas celebrated by people from all over the country each year on 14 November. This day marks the birth anniversary of the first Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru who was born on 14 November 1889. Children's day this year will be celebrated on Sunday 14 November.

Jawaharlal Nehru is called the name of Chacha Nehru by children of the nation and is still remembered as the Chacha (uncle) for children. The great personality Nehru advocated for a well-developed education system for children leading to the growth and development of a better future for Indian society.

According to Jawaharlal Nehru, Children are the foundation of a society and also the strength of the country. Before the death of Nehru, the country celebrated Children's Day on 20 November which is World's Children's Day declared by the United Nations. But after the death of Jawaharlal Nehru, the date for Children's Day was changed by India celebrating it on 14 November from then onwards.

History and Significance of Children's day:

A proposal was passed by the Parliament of India after the death of Jawaharlal Nehru on 27 May 1964 and the proposal marked his birth anniversary as Children's Day for his contribution to building the children of the nation. On Children's Day, the whole nation pays tribute to Jawaharlal Nehru remembering his works and passion for the betterment of the future of India through children.

Children's Day is observed in various parts of the country with the aim of bringing awareness regarding the education of children along with their rights and care. Jawaharlal Nehru once said that the Children of Today will make the India of tomorrow and the way they grew up, the way we bring them up will determine the future of India. Various competitions are held in schools across the country such as quiz competitions, Essay competitions along with sports events.

Children's day 2021 is going to be something different and more exciting for children because due to the rise of the global pandemic schools were closed following the imposed lockdown. Since the schools have not celebrated children's day for years, therefore, this year Children's Day will be celebrated following necessary covid measures.
